It is recognised by Customs authorities and is commonly used to support correct tariff classification, including eligibility for reduced or duty-free entry where applicable. The certificate is also used for insurance purposes, providing insurers with authoritative confirmation of antiquity. KNKBSK certificates are recognised by collectors, professional dealers, and auction houses.

Scope of Certification

Certificates of Age are issued for Japanese swords, Japanese armour, and associated fittings and related artefacts. This is the only certification offered by the KNKBSK.

Issuance and Fees

Certificates may be requested directly by collectors or through authorised professional dealers. Issuance is handled through KNKBSK offices in the United Kingdom and Japan. Fees excluding postage are £27.00 or ¥6,800.

Security and Verification

Each Certificate of Age includes a unique hole-punched identification number, a hand-applied hanko stamp, and an embossed KNKBSK seal. A digital record of every certificate issued is retained by the KNKBSK to allow verification when required.
